Backpacking Weekend

Our ambitious three day ladies hike, turned into a much more tame 6-mile family/ boyfriend/ dog trip. Which in the end, is waaaaay more fun since it involves: more talking, more swimming, and more wacky backpacking stunts- like toilet papering tents in the wee morning hours.

Pemi River

So we backpacked in, on a glorious summer day, the type of thing New Hampshire has seen far too little of this summer. We elected to travel a trail that crosses parts of the Pemi river several times, making for fun river crossings, photos, and breaks.

On the Pemi

on our way to swimming

My favorite kind of backpacking is the kind that revolves around killer places to swim and this place didn’t let down. While the falls were pretty packed, a short walk up the trail led to more crystal clear pools with excellent places to jump from.

Jumping in

Our evening meal was two fold- dinner number one was a chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes cooked by our pals. Turned out they hadn’t packed enough mashed potatoes, no worries because we packed a ton of Spanish rice for burritos. Our second dinner was over the top and a bit spicy. I’ll share this full recipe soon!

Adam's Kitchen
Adam kicked us all out of "his kitchen"

For the rest of the evening we were up to no good. Being silly. Doing stuff. Ya know.
Somewhere between the time of 12:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. a gnome, some darned teenagers, or maybe my friend S that backpacked in with us toilet papered our tent. Yeah I know. I even had my dog in the tent. I think someone may have slipped her some drugs in her doggy kibble. That or she was pooped out from the hike in.

TP’d in the White Mountains. It really doesn’t get better than this.

Yeah! A few of us were carrying our backpacks that are sort of week long packs, while others were carrying smaller ones. I have to admit- my pack was pretty dusty in the back of my closet :)
