Hiking the 4,000 Footers: North and South Hancock 8.22.2012

North and South Hancock
Hancock Notch Trail- Cedar Brook Trail- Hancock Loop Trail
9.6 miles round trip

Numbers 19 and 20 on the list!

The Hancocks are an excellent set of mountains for an easy day trip- small group trip- or trip with a young family. Very little elevation gain overall (under 3000 feet) with moderate mileage.

The trails themselves are easy with some small river crossings. Depending on what time of year you go and how high the water level is will increase the challenge. When we went at the end of August this year the rivers were absolutely not a problem to get across.

The distance between the two mountains is a long stretch. When you reach the summit of the first peak you may be a little bummed when you see how far the next one is.

We had the trails mainly to ourselves with one or two other small groups of hikers. The views were limited or in one direction only, but since the hike itself was so easy we didn't feel cheated.
